Unfortunately for you all, I went 21-1 over the first two rounds. I picked every game correctly except for Westlake’s upset of Hastings, essentially spoiling all the surprises of sectionals.
The only reason I’m gloating so much is because I know it’s only downhill from here. There is no way I could put together another set of picks like that again.
Or could I…
OVERALL RECORD: 52-8-6
PLAYOFF RECORD: 28-1-0
No. 8 Mamaroneck at No. 1 North Rockland, 3 p.m.
Pick: North Rockland, 3-1. I said it last time and I’ll say it again, they don’t give out No. 1 seeds as a joke. The Red Raiders are for real.
No. 5 Mahopac at No. 4 John Jay-East Fishkill, 3 p.m
Pick: Mahopac, 2-1. The Indians had one of the hottest finishes to the season of anyone in the entire section. There is something to be said for peaking at the right time.
No. 6 Scarsdale at No. 3 Horace Greeley, 2:30 p.m
Pick: Horace Greeley, 3-2. Should be an absolute battle. I give the Quakers a slight edge.
No. 7 Arlington at No. 2 Clarkstown South, 5 p.m
Pick: Clarkstown South, 3-2. The Vikings have to be a bit bummed out with having to play the reigning section champions in only quarterfinals. Tough draw, but I still think a determined, talented Clarkstown South team can get it done.
No. 9 Pelham at No. 1 Byram Hills, 3 p.m.
Pick: Byram Hills, 3-1. Too much firepower up top for the Pelicans. Bobcats move on to the semfinals.
No. 5 Panas at No. 4 Tappan Zee, 4:30 p.m.
Pick: Tappan Zee, 3-2. Having played in all those close games this season is starting to pay off for the Dutchies. When the going gets tough Tappan Zee will be ready.
No. 14 Nyack at No. 6 Eastchester, 3 p.m.
Pick: Eastchester, 3-1. The clock is striking midnight on this Cinderella story. It was a nice run, but the Indians’ playoffs end at the hands of a talented Eagles’ squad.
No. 7 Rye at No. 2 Somers, 3 p.m.
Pick: Somers, 2-1. Arguably the best game of the day. The Garnets got no favors with their playoff draw this season. First the defending section champions. Now last season’s runner up. Tuskers weren’t hurt as bad as the Pirates to graduation.
No. 8 Croton-Harmon at No. 1 Briarcliff, 3 p.m.
Pick: Briarcliff, 3-1. The Bears haven’t lost a game all season. No reason for them to start now.
No. 5 Albertus Magnus at No. 4 Valhalla, 4:30 p.m.
Pick: Albertus Magnus, 1-0. The Falcons are one of the scrappiest teams in the section. Coupled with the fact they played in a solid league makes them a tough draw for anyone.
No. 6 Pleasantville at No. 3 North Salem, 3 p.m.
Pick: Pleasantville, 2-1. This one should be tight. I’ll give the edge to the Panthers in an upset.
No. 10 Westlake at No. 2 Bronxville, 3 p.m.
Pick: Bronxville, 2-0. Regardless of the injuries they have suffered, the Broncos are still the reigning champions and need to be respected.
