Check out my picks for the entire Class A bracket, including what team I think will win the whole thing.
Thanks Dan, I respectfully disagree on some picks and don’t think it will all boil down to a 1 v 2 final. They do the best they can with the seeds but I think with all the different schedules that the teams play, the accuracy of the seeds are off and there will definitely be a couple of surprises in the final 4. Looking forward to the weekend.
Just out of curiosity, what teams do you have in your final four in Class A?
I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t happy I had the top two seeds in the final, because it almost NEVER works out like that. There always seem to be some kind of upset. In this case, though, I saw both those teams making it. I could be wrong. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
Appreciate the feedback.
I think Eastchester could pull off the Upset vs Somers
Well since you asked, I think the Rockland side of the river is the toughest schedule/league of the lot in double A. Don’t get me wrong, there are many, very good teams on the east side of the river that deserve their props but to me it seems more spread out as far as their league/schedule goes. The Rockland double A teams are all competitive and beat the crap out of each other twice during the season. At this point they’re all pretty lumped up but they’re all seasoned and I think they should do well moving forward. JMHO.
I see Pearl River getting to the final 4 along with TZ, Eastchester and Byram (Byram has a very easy road to travel).
PR is a solid choice. They seemed to really pick things up down the stretch (had a nice win against Bronxville). Barring a catastrophe against Poughkeepsie, Saturday’s game against Rye should one of the best matches in the first round of any of the classes.
TZ is a tough team for me to get my head around. Saw them in action, albeit briefly, against Rye before lights starting blowing up. Looked solid. Played a ton of close games this season. They also are responsible for that nasty little tie that stopped North Rockland from going 16-0 (Yes, I understand it was a shortened game, but a tie is still a tie. As the old saying goes, ‘There are no pictures in the box score’). They did come up on the short end of the stick on a lot of close games, or ended up drawing, which scares me.
Eastchester had a great start to the season. Slipped a little bit down the stretch. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand, those late season losses could serve as a wake-up call for the Eagles that they can’t take anyone lightly. On the other hand, it could be a sign of bad things to come. The fact they came against solid opponents does put my mind at ease a little bit, though.
Really looking forward to things getting underway. It’s like the World Cup came nine months earlier, except there is no threat of getting kidnapped or executed.
Having seen Byram Hills dismantle some seeded teams early in the season, such as #9 Pelham and #8 Ardsley (combined score of two games 14-1), then seeing Byram Hills thrash #7 Rye 4-0 as well as #2 Class B’s Bronxville 4-0 at B’ville despite Charley Warble’s best efforts, add in their beating of #10 Pearl River at PR by 4-0 and drubbing #6 Eastchester 4-0, toss in Byram Hills pounding highly touted Cornwall 5-1—tough to agree that Somer’s modest edge in upper-class players should allow them to beat Byram Hills in the finals. Both teams field excellent defenses, but Byram Hills has a much more potent, fast-strike offense. Should be a 2-0 or 2-1 win for the Bobcats, avenging last year.
I hear you on all your points, but the girls on Somers (three-straight appearances in sectional final) have more experience making deep runs in the playoffs than probably any other team in Class A. I believe that matters.
Either way, it should be interesting. As the old saying goes, ‘That’s why we play the games.’
Dan, Somers team is not a senior laden team, got underclassman playing major minutes I saw both, BH seemed the more potent team.
I know they aren’t a senior-laden team, but they have a big junior class that has been on varsity for a few years.
Listen IF it actually does come to a BH-Somers in the final I think it will be great game. At the end of the day I had to pick one team so I chose the Tuskers.
We’ll see how things unfold over the next week.
1 at a time, folks.
Thx putnamcoSoccerfan for the insight having seen both, as I unfortunately have not seen Somers, so that is useful. Wonder if others might have seen both Byram Hills and Somers so as to compare. If both have excellent defenses, it indicates offense should decide the game. putnamcoSoccerfan, is the Somers defense fast? If they are not, then the Byram Hills speed on the wings as well as swift strike through passes up the middle could make for many scoring chances, which the two big goal scorers for Bobcats tend to put in the back of the net. Dan, you are accurate, it would be the game to see in Class A.
