The last time Nanuet and Nyack played each other, the Golden Knights lost the game. Friday afternoon was a different story.
Nanuet defeated the visiting Indians 2-0.
That was the same score Nyack won by just six days ago.
“It was senior day,” Golden Knights coach Lindsey Brechbiel said. “They were all set and ready to go. They came out on fire. They played on fire for a full 80 minutes.”
Senior Laura Marinello led the way, scoring in the first half to give the team a 1-0 lead.
She assisted on Alanna Calvano’s goal in the second half to give the team an insurance goal.
“She was outstanding,” Brechbiel said about Marinello. “She had a minor setback last week against Nyack. She got injured and had to get eight stitches in the top of her nose. She was allowed to play even though she got her stitches out Thursday. It’s difficult for her to use her head, but she’s playing smart with her feet and creating opportunities.”
Rebecca Richards made four saves in the shutout.
Nyack had an opportunity near the end of the game, but Nicole Mirro made a goal-saving play on defense.
“They had a dangerous opportunity with about a minute and a half left,” Brechbiel said. “She did what she had to do. I’ve never seen her run so hard. She ran back and took away the goal-scoring opportunity.”
