Briarcliff started the game at Ossining on Wednesday night in a 4-4-2 formation, but after getting off to a slow start, coach Owen Scully decided to have the team change it up.
Fortunately for the Bears, the change to a 4-3-3 opened up the offense and created an opportunity for Lauren Miller to score two second half goals to lead her team to a 2-1 win. Cassidy Carrafiello added an assist.
“I thought we came out a little bit flat in the first half because we weren’t moving the ball as well as we normally do,” Scully said. “In the second half, we had a momentum shift and we kept pressing because we were looking for a win.”
Grace Scorcia scored for Ossining in the first half on an assist from Abby Squirrell.
Scully was happy to see his team maintain focus in a game where injuries on both teams caused some delay.
“We have a lot of young players on the team, but the captains showed great leadership,” Scully said. “It’s a great testament to our character and resolve.”
Scully added that Kelly Monaghan played well with two saves and was strong defending the net. The Bears currently have four wins and a tie this season.
“I am really happy because they showed that they are a very good team who can stay calm and composed and do what we do on the practice field,” Scully added.
