Click here for my story on Byram Hills’ big win over Pearl River. Below are some videos we shot at the game. The first is game footage taken by Journal News’ photographer Seth Harrison, including Barnett’s rocket of a goal in the first half. The second and third videos are interviews with Byram Hills’ Carly Barnett and Nicole Hoffman.
Some quick notes on the game:
-The Bobcats’ offense did not disappoint. It really is amazing how willing they are to shoot the ball from literally ANYWHERE on the field. I didn’t her Byram Hills’ coach Mike Martino reprimand any of his players for any of the shots they took.
–Nicole Hoffman (three goals, one assist) and Carly Barnett (one goal, one assist) were the headliners of the day, but Byram Hills has a ton of scoring threats. Rachel Pollack and Nicole Kim both put some good shots on goal. Even defender Annabel Stanley made some good overlapping runs down the sideline. Just goes to show that anyone is capable of putting the ball in the back of the net for this squad.
-Despite bringing back 15 players from last season, Byram Hills is still a young team. The Bobcats only have three seniors. I asked Martino how his team has managed to stay so composed and not slip up while holding such big leads. He praised his captains, seniors Annabel Stanley, Kacy Fishman and Marrisa Miller along with junior Raquel Gaudio, with keeping his young team calm.
-I know 4-0 might not look like a great scoreline, but Pirates’ goalkeeper Lauren Gallagher had a very solid game, making 11 saves in a little over a half of work. Emma Burnett, who came in in relief in the second half, also had a solid showing, making five saves. Of the four goals scored by the Bobcats, I’d be hard pressed to find any keeper in the section that could have saved three of them.
