Three minutes into the game, Amanda Becker dribbled down the sideline, took a long-range shot and scored for Greeley.
It was then that Quakers coach Erin Tracy realized her message had resonated with her players.
“Before we started, I said, ‘We need to come out and be offensive-minded,’ ” Tracy said.
Becker finished with two goals in the 4-0 win against visiting Mamaroneck Thursday in a game called with 20 minutes left in regulation due to inclement weather.
Melissa Ardizzone and Sadie Rutman each added a goal.
Greeley prepared a defensive strategy that focused on Mamaroneck’s usual ability to be quick with the give-and-go.
Hannah Dunn had eight saves for the Quakers and was helped by Olivia Wangerman in the defensive effort.
“Dunn was in the right spot every time Mamaroneck threatened, even with a foot injury,” Tracy said. “Olivia came and shut down Mamaroneck’s offensive threats several times.”
The Quakers will visit Tappan Zee on Monday.
