Every week I’ll award the extremely prestigious Beast of the week to one lucky girls soccer player.
For those of you unfamiliar with the honor, think of it like a player of the week award, except 1,000 times better. I try to pick someone that doesn’t just have a strong statistical week, but also helped her team get some wins. It doesn’t matter if you score six goals if your team ends up losing 7-6.
So without further ado, the first recipient of this season’s Beast of the week award.
There were plenty of things to take away from the first week in the season. However, I think one thing that stood out for most people was Panas’ hot start. One the key components to the Panthers jumping out to a 2-0 record was DeSilva.
The senior started things off in a big way against Lakeland. DeSilva scored three goals in the Panthers’ 7-1 win over fellow Lakeland Central School District member.
As if a hat trick against her schools’ biggest rival wasn’t impressive enough, DeSilva scored Panas’ first four goals in its 5-4 double-overtime win against Yorktown.
So here we are, two games into the season, and DeSilva is sporting a 3.5 goals-per-game average.
Sure, it’s a bit far fetched to believe DeSilva will be able to maintain that type of production for the remainder of the season. Still, it’s clear the DeSilva and Panas are a force to be reckoned with.
