Marisa Bentley completed her hat trick three minutes into the second overtime for what was the eventual game winner in Tappan Zee’s 4-2 win over Mamaroneck.
Paige Nevins added an insurance goal three minutes later on a pass from her sister Jamie Nevins, one of her four assists on the day.
The Dutchies took a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but goals from Erin McClave and Haley Karow knotted things up.
“We played well in the first half,” Tappan Zee coach Bill Lynch said. “They had us a little back on our heels in the second half.”
Tappan Zee midfielder Simone Arzoomanian came up big in the second half, stopping a shot on the goal line to preserve the tie.
“I let them know at the end of the game they could have packed up tent, but they didn’t,” Lynch said. “They showed a lot of character.”
