The Albertus Magnus match with Hastings was one of ugliest matches ever witnessed.
Magnus defenders pulled, pushed, and pummelled the Hastings offense on their way to a “win”.
It’s one thing to play “physical”, it’s another to leave bodies strewn all over the field.
They didn’t stop with the players – they sassed the refs, moved balls up on free kicks and throw-ins; it was a true display of poor sportsmanship.
The refs caught most of the offenses, but waited until the last 90 seconds to finally yellow card one of many offenders.
It was sad to see a team coached to play with a clear disregard for playing dirty instead of playing well. Just as sad was how the fine play of some of their forwards and mids was spoiled by this ugly win.
let’s go north rockland win it all!!
Bronxville- 1 Albertus -0. Halftime.
I just finished watching 1st half as I live a few miles away. BTW, Albertus played nothing like the description from previous post. Bronxville was the more physical team as was Albertus. Just some good old, legal, physical play.
Totally agree with you Jack! a talented team should not resort to that type of play!
I think jack was talking about a previous round matchup of albertus Magnus vs Hastings. The Magnus / Bronxville game was everything it was supposed to be. The refs actually let them play although their was a pk called that was questionable but I was at a completely different angle than the ref so maybe he saw something I didn’t. Congrats to Bronxville establishing themselves as a powerhouse in section 1 soccer
Congratulations to Bronxville on their win and to Ibelievethat for the prediction. Who scored for Bronxville?
Madison Campbell and Killian Donohue scored for Bronxville! It was an amazing match up and although a tough game, Bronxville pulled through. Good job girls!
AM played a very defensive formation. Once Bville scored, AM had to open it up. Bville controlled most of the game was very disciplined playing it out to the wing and spreading out that strong 6 man defense of AM. Even though most of the game was on AM’s end, AM did a great job of counterattacking. With the exception of the penalty kick, Bville played an almost perfect game, but hats off to AM for playing a tough game.
@NSSoccerDad, sorry our two teams didn’t get to meet again, it would have been gloriously difficult game.
What a game by the Lady Pirates! Congrats to Coach Peabody and coach Gillule.
Unbelievable game between PR and Somers. PR dominated 1st half but only converted once. Walsh came right out of the half and buried her 2nd goal 20 seconds in and this game looked like it was over…give Somers credit, they battle back to tie despite playing a player down (as well as their coach) for 25 minutes.
epic battle between somers and pearl river. somers showed the heart of a champion battling back from 2 nil and tying it up only to lose on pk`s. as i posted in the first round of these playoffs , casey walsh is the best kept secret in section 1. the best team won this game and this division. let`s go pirates !!!!
jack phillips have you posted your sour grapes rant about albertus all over the place?? the better team won and thats all there is to it. to attack one of section ones best young coaches and the players from his team after they beat the team you root for is really childish and classless !!!
Wow I’m with you Somers PR was absolutely nuts. 2 red cards, penalty kick down by 2 to send it to over time than golden goal than pks. Nothing short of great. Bronxville well done to a great team led by a great coach. 2-1 not bad. Next prediction Bville goes to finals of the regional tournament, PR goes as well. Good luck section 1
Congrats to all the Section 1 champs. Who cares about what anyone posts here. After almost 20 games and months of training the best teams are left standing. Bville Section 1 champs 3rd yr in a row & 4th yr in a row to the finals. Enough said on that. Its still a hard road to Cortland, so good luck Arlington, Pearl River, Bronxville & Haldane. Make Section 1 proud!
Pearl River and Somers are technically co-champions and the game goes down in the record book as a tie.
class A, you can have the technicality, the pirates are champs and moving on !!!!
Predictions:
There weather has really put the Section 1 teams at a disadvantage, cutting into practice times and more importantly, taking away recovery time. This may be an important factor in the second half today.
CLASS AA – Arlington vs Washingtonville: even though the Admirals are at home, it will be though for Arlington to come back at 5 PM and face 16-0 Washingtonville with the same intensity as they had against N Rockland, with a couple of ECNL players Washingtonville, prevails here 2-1
CLASS A – A real weather heart breaker. If there is a Cinderella team it is the Pirates of Pearl River, but if they got home last night, after a very physical win by 9 PM, they still have to get a 10:30 bus for the 1 1/2 ride to their “home” game at Arlington HS. 30 goal scorer Caroline Staudle may be to much for the Pirates. The better team, unfortunately runs out of gas and goes down 3-1 to Cornwall
CLASS B – Best hope for Section 1. The Patriot system permeates Bronxville. Even though Spackenkill has scored buckets of goals and has a bunch of clean sheets, their strength of schedule is suspect. The Broncos coaches will have a answer and will be playing on Tuesday. Bronxville 2-0, Killian gets both.
CLASS C – Sorry Haldane, St Boniventure bound Gladys Loyas with 44 goals leads SS Seward (12 straight Section 9 titles) to a 3-0 win
NS Soccer Dad I agree with your predictions but you clearly do not respect the broncos. Most of the kids on the bronco team do not play soccer year round- guess they have the desire to win and play as a team. take a lesson
All games up at Arlington ?
Dog pound????
I am sorry if you see picking your team to win as a sign of disrespect. I think they will in large part because of the coaches. They are not led by an teacher or part-timer collecting a two month stipend, but by year round professionals who, drawing on their experience, have taken girls, indeed many who do not play year round, and turned them into a team that can win in many different circumstances. I am sure all of the teams the Broncos have beaten had a desire to win and some of them arguably even had more talent. Those teams with the girls that are now getting ready for basketball, did not have the same level of coaching. If I missed any part of the lesson, please point it out.
NSS – very good analysis. Bronxville should have never got past Lourdes.
Saw that game after the Lourdes team knocked us out (Ardsley).
Bronxville was so lucky that the Lourdes team missed several ‘easy’ looks and ‘easy’ shots in the first half of that game. (and even in the second half, too)
That being said – Good Luck Bronxville bring us back a title !
Almost all of these girls, on all teams, are multi-sport athletes and are fun to watch. Everyone said Bville loses at each round and today people are saying they werent good and did not deserve to win. Coaching aside, they’ve been there before & knew what it would take to repeat. Desire out ways talent. Btw only 1 Sr. Many sophs & freshmen plus an 8th grader.
Dog Pound – You have shown me the light, all teams are the same, coaching and talent do not matter. Only desire counts. You analysis is astounding. I guess Albertus Magnus and North Salem really did not want to win. Talk about disrespect
as always…luck and fortunate bounces are also involved….of which our fan-favorite Bronxville have been the the good end of those factors recently.
Fate favors the well prepared (i.e. coached team) Does anyone know how the ball is bouncing in LaGrangeville?
not yet…will probably drive up with the wife and stop by a friends house and catch the AA game (or visa-versa).
yes – a well-prepared staff can certainly help a team ‘overachieve’; with the luck factor making everybody look better than they “really might be”.
But ‘really might be’ DOES include luck – so hence, the lucky overachievement becomes a reality.
Regardless of bounces – they never should have got by that Lourdes team (but they did)
Good Luck today, BXV !
I guess 4 lucky bounces. Bville 4-2 over Spak.
Good show Broncos…Good luck in Oneonta
Spackenkill played a horribly weak Section 9 schedule…no luck need today.
Oneonta or Cortland ?
First Oneonta HS away on Tuesday
Good luck to the broncos make section 1 proud
