Clarkstown South will visit North Rockland to take on the Red Raiders at 1 p.m. today in the Class AA semifinals. The winner takes on No. 3 Arlington Thursday (hopefully).
North Rockland won both meetings with the Vikings this season — both by the final score of 2-1. Both times, North Rockland sophomore Julianna Cabrera had the eventual game-winners, including a dramatic breakaway goal with 43 seconds left in their first meeting.
Brianna McMahon had a very good game for the Vikings yesterday despite not scoring. Her aggression won many crucial 50-50s, and she finished the game by taking the ball down the sideline a few times to get time off the clock and prevent Horace Greeley from threatening. She and Briana Jean-Charles must produce.
Clarkstown South will need the same defensive effort from Kaitlyn Montera, Laura Castaldo and Laura Rolston to slow down Cabrera, Isabel Zayas, Taylor Aylmer and the Red Raiders. Castaldo and North Rockland goalkeeper Shannon Robinson are two of the best, most vocal goalkeepers around.
I’m predicting another low-scoring affair here with North Rockland squeezing by 2-1.
